The Communications Manager will implement communications initiatives to raise awareness and increase attendance to the Museum of the City of New York. The position reports to the City Museum's Senior Vice President for External Affairs and will oversee traditional and new media outreach to enhance visibility of programming, including exhibitions, public and school programs, and publications, as well as developments concerning the continuing renovations of the Museum developments. The Manager will work with an external communications consultant to develop and execute communications strategies on an ongoing basis.

DUTIES:
* Work closely with Museum's curatorial departments to ensure critical reviews of Museum exhibitions in all major New York outlets, conduct outreach and secure listings for public programs, events, and symposia in newspapers, magazines, websites, blogs, social media, and other forms of publicity.

* Develop and execute individual communications plans to build attendance for exhibitions and for certain public programs, including media outreach, web content development and social media strategy.

* Cultivate and maintain professional contacts with media, blogs and membership organizations, with a particular focus on the arts.

* Write press releases and develop print materials to promote exhibitions and public programs and effectively distribute and pitch to media.

* Plan and coordinate media previews, news conferences, and interviews with curators and staff in coordination with external consulting team.

*Generate creative ideas for new sources of information dissemination, such as press and online announcements, postcards, fliers, leaflets about specific programs.

*Flexibility to work some nights/weekends including special events as assigned.

*Use web-based methods of communication and social media to generate publicity and assist with updated content on Museum's websites.
