Senior Manager Communications Job Description

Our client, a contemporary retailer, is looking for a Senior Manager of Communications with 5+ years of experience, preferably in communications for a retailer.

Responsibilities relating to the company website:

Oversee the implementation of the Microsoft SharePoint platform, in addition to the development of ongoing content on the company’s website :

-Refine the rollout pan and schedule by functional area.

-Work with IT to create a forum to guide, educate and train web staff on appropriate content (rollout phase and beyond).

-Develop a launch strategy and campaign to raise awareness.

-Work with Marketing and Buying teams to keep web content current and appealing.

-Monitor user statistics and respond with internal marketing to draw people to the site.

-Develop feedback tools for the site

Other responsibilities:

-Lead an initiative to develop, write and maintain store tools and best practices in partnership with the Stores Team, Central Office business partners and subject matter experts.

-Create communication on promotional, marketing, visual and operational strategies and changes for all stores.

-Partner with Store Operations and Marketing to ensure field workload calendars are current and shared with the Stores consistently.

-Build and manage relationships with all business partners to deliver established short term and long term project/initiatives.

-Lead committees and projects as assigned.

-Educate partners about store-related projects; garner support, align on responsibilities and timelines and hold business partners accountable for project contributions.

-Solicit and utilize store-level participation and feedback as appropriate in development of communication, tools and resources.


-Handle immediate action / crisis communication needs with appropriate balance of accuracy and urgency.


Skills and Qualifications:

-Strong writing and editing skills including business and technical writing

- Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of mediums print, verbal, online, etc.

- Basic knowledge of corporate communications methodology

- Detail oriented and accurate

- Effective time management and organizational skills

- Strong project management skills

- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively

- Working knowledge of retail stores and business systems and processes

Further requirements:

- 5+ years of internal communications preferably in a retail apparel environment

- Requires very strong organization skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

- Operations/communications project experience working in a retail environment

- Strong verbal and written communications skills including ability to communicate effectively to all levels of management

- Strong listening and negotiating skills

- College degree required

- Technical skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat Professional.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule with travel to local NJ and NY retail locations (some overnight travel may occur).
