The Managing Editor will oversee the editorial calendar, content development, and day-to-day operations of the Clinton Global Initiative's (CGI) online platform, dedicated to turning ideas into action. The portal will galvanize actions - big and small - by users around the world through a combination of great storytelling, unique forums, educational materials, and tools to take action, The Managing Editor will also be instrumental in the concept and build-out of the platform, as well as the launch strategy for the site. Year-round, the Managing Editor will both create and curate content for the site, working with both an in-house staff and dozens of external content sources. He or she will craft multi-faceted campaigns around relevant issues in the CGI member community. He/She will work with and seamlessly integrate critical strategic partners who provide the tools for users to take action. He or she will manage a team of three additional staff members dedicated to the online platform including a community manager responsible for driving overall social media and digital engagement.


  1. Manage editorial calendar, content development, and execution for forthcoming CGI online platform

  2. Curate the bulk of the content from external sources, including but not limited to media entities, topic experts, leading journalists, NGO partners, CGI member organizations, and individual CGI members

  3. Create original written and select multimedia content

  4. Assign content to additional in-house staff and work with CGI creative team and third parties to create other pieces of original content

  5. Serve as the final reviewer and approver for content, including copy-editing and securing all necessary internal approvals

  6. Maintain the CGI homepage, specifically the daily "merchandising" of individual stories, content, and featured users

  7. Generate regular reports based on metrics and analytics, and use them to set and measure site benchmarks

  8. Integrate in a seamless manner strategic partners who provide the critical tools with which users will take action

  9. Engage with all relevant departments to develop and publish content in support of the mission of CGI

  10. Lead a four-person team which will encompass technical support, community management, and content creation


  1. Bachelor's degree

  2. 7-10 years experience in online publishing environments, preferably with a previous position leading editorial for a large site

  3. Experience managing content from multiple sources (social, third party, in-house, correspondents, etc.)

  4. Demonstrated track record of creating innovative storytelling content
  5. Experience with a variety of publishing CMS types

  6. Thorough understanding of and ability to implement best practices for online content

  7. Comprehensive knowledge of online "engagement" platforms, e.g., crowd-funding, volunteering, donation, buy one give one

  8. Ability to practice discretion and judgment in a fast-paced environment

  9. Knowledge of AP style and extensive copy editing experience

Physical Requirements:

  1. May require travel, which may require walking distances, lifting, and carrying luggage and boxes, and prolonged periods of sitting in tight quarters

  2. Significant computer work, which may require repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands

  3. Occasional lifting (> 15 lbs), bending, pulling, collating/filing, and occasional lifting, carrying, and/or moving boxes, files, etc., some of which could be heavy or require the use of carts
