Digital Manager, Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Conferences
The Digital Manager will join the entrepreneurial team that produces world-class conferences at The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones.  The DJ/WSJ conferences group launches and operates successful summits attended by the world’s leading CEOs, politicians and innovators, as well as by top executives in vertical business segments.   The growth strategy for the conferences group includes significant digital and technical initiatives in audience marketing, acquisition and management, and the Digital Manager will oversee those important operations of the business, playing a central role in acquiring and retaining our elite audiences.   Current conferences in our roster include The Wall Street Journal CEO Council, CFO Network, CIO Network, ECO:nomics, Viewpoints, the DJ Private Equity Analyst Conference, and others.  More information about our summits can be found at
The Digital Manager’s responsibilities will fall into three general categories:
(1)    Creating, optimizing and managing our customer databases: developing target-customer lists of top executives and influencers worldwide, optimizing and maintaining the databases that house those lists, analyzing data to identify key patterns, and developing reports that are relevant to our stakeholders
(2)    Digital marketing: overseeing and executing email blasts to a wide variety of lists for all our conferences: creating and managing social media marketing campaigns using Twitter, Facebook, and other social media channels; and strategically assessing the results
(3)    Providing state-of-the-art digital services to our attendees and audiences: examples include developing and overseeing relevant online communities, conference-attendee networks, and similar initiatives
The Digital Manager’s position also entails driving the further development of our digital strategy; creating project plans for all digital initiatives and ensuring all milestones are met; and shepherding key online deliverables through production and execution.  There is significant opportunity to grow and expand the role.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in direct marketing, ideally with a focus on email and database marketing and analysis
  • Comfort with and experience in Excel, email marketing and database programs; an understanding of relational database design and execution; and experience working with designers and developers
  • A strong brand sensibility and the recognition that all aspects of a particular product must reflect a particular identity, strategy and positioning
  • A creative, strategic mindset and the propensity to continuously improve efficiency
  • Experience with high-end customers is desirable
  • Excellent organizational and project-management skills, as well as close attention to detail and the ability to ensure milestones are met on time and on budget
  • The ability to be self-directed and work under constant deadlines
  • Because WSJ Conferences involve cross-platform elements (e.g., print, live and online tie-ins) and the input of many different constituents, the Digital Manager must have strong interpersonal skills, a professional demeanor, and the ability to interact with executives from a range of departments across The Wall Street Journal, such as Advertising, Editorial, Strategy, and Marketing.
Also essential are energy, enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to work with a team in a constantly-evolving, entrepreneurial environment. A Bachelor’s degree is required.  Some travel required.
