The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Senior Publicist. Reporting to the Director of Communications and the Communications Manager, the Senior Publicist will be responsible for developing and executing media relations and social media strategy for major exhibitions and film programs; serving as the primary liaison to exhibition curators, drafting exhibition press materials, developing and executing integrated press and social media strategies for assigned exhibitions, coordinating interviews with curatorial staff, and organizing press previews and other press events.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Developing and executing press strategies, drafting press releases, assembling all related press materials, and coordinating press events for major exhibitions and film programs.

- Determining press strategy and pitching feature stories and reviews for assigned exhibitions and projects. Pitching curator interviews and serving as primary liaison between curators and members of the press for assigned exhibitions and projects.

- Overseeing and managing press previews, photo opportunities, and other press events for assigned exhibitions, and serving as on-site Communications representative at special events organized in conjunction with assigned programs and exhibitions.

- Updating and maintaining online press kits for assigned projects on the Museum’s press web site.

- Organizing and overseeing exhibition- and project-related television, film, and photo shoots.

- Conceptualizing and incorporating social media placements into Communications campaigns for all assigned exhibitions, film programs, and projects.

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, or similar, with a background in visual culture or Art History and five to seven years public relations experience in salaried positions of increasing responsibility or equivalent. Candidates must also demonstrate a proven track record of media placements in print, broadcast, and online media. Must have some background in modern and contemporary art, and experience working with New York cultural press. Prior experience in a cultural non-profit environment preferred. Additional requirements include: experience with social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage projects of varying sizes and simultaneously and to establish and juggle priorities. Ability to successfully meet deadlines and respond to a heavy load of press requests in a fast-paced, complex institutional environment. Working knowledge of HTML and Photoshop essential. The position entails some evening work in conjunction with Museum events.
