HarperCollins Publishers is seeking a Contracts Assistant for the Legal & Contracts division.

Responsibilities:

• Performs routine and specialized administrative duties for Contracts Managers and legal and contracts department.
• Inputs data and maintains contract databases.
• Drafts, types, proofreads and edits correspondence and other documents.
• Maintains electronic and paper files on an ongoing basis.
• Tracks contracts through negotiation, approval, distribution and execution process.
• Prepares contract files for scanning.
• Responds to questions and direct inquiries regarding contracts and other matters.
• Screens phone calls and refers callers to appropriate staff members in a professional and courteous manner.
• Drafts dramatic, audio, cover art, and reprint deals for Children’s subrights.
• Drafts termination letters for Children’s subrights.
• Drafts and negotiates amendments for trade titles under Ecco, !t books, Harper Perennial, Harper Paperbacks, Newmarket, and Harper Design imprints.
• Vets book club deals drafted by other houses.
• Creates and maintains project charts and department reports to ensure progress of work is tracked.

Qualifications:

• 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to exercise professionalism, poise and tact in all verbal and written correspondence
• Strong time management skills
• Ability to set priorities under pressure
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Willingness to take initiative and to complete projects independently
• Proficient knowledge of MS Office
• Prior administrative or publishing experience required
• Good judgment and practicality
