The Current, San Antonio’s only alternative newsweekly, is looking for a full-time staff writer to cover the seventh-largest city in the U.S. This position is oriented toward local news, with the opportunity to develop a specialty. Previous writers in this position have gone on to excel at reporting on criminal justice, the environment, and politics on the local and state levels. The staff writer will be responsible for filing weekly news stories and blogs, as well as developing longer investigative features and profiles. We require at least two years of reporting experience, or one year and a graduate-level degree in journalism. Strong candidates will have experience reporting in Texas. Spanish language and multimedia skills are a plus. Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience, and we offer an attractive benefits package.The Current is an award-winning Times Shamrock property.
