General Purpose:
Analyze communications-related needs at a strategic level and participate in developing, implementing, and executing programs to address communication; serve as a concept developer and writer/editor for customer-focused marketing efforts, new and ongoing, ensuring content and voice are on brand

Essential Functions:
Develop and maintain relationships with people throughout sales, marketing, dealer distribution, operations, and other parts of the corporation as needed to develop and refine content for various communications.
Network with salespeople, dealers, and A&D on an ongoing basis, serving as a liaison, information gatherer, and group facilitator in order to ascertain needs and to strengthen the presence of Marketing with those audiences.
Understand the broad context of Herman Miller's strategic objectives, and the brand strategy through which we plan to achieve our objects in the market.
Support the writing/communications initiatives of sales and marketing, including writing and editing work on such projects as corporate and product-related materials, e-marketing campaigns, website, blogposts, etc.
Support the writing/communication initiatives associated with supporting the Herman Miller brand.
Develop SEO/SEM friendly content that meets the needs of our overall digital strategy.
Support social media platforms with content that furthers the corporation's digital strategy.
Through proofreading, editing, and writing, assure that appropriate content and brand voice are followed for assigned programs within the communications model for customer and sales/dealer audiences.
Manage external resources as required, producing content for both assigned programs and short-term projects.
Participate on cross-functional project teams, serving as the writer/communications representative to ensure that content meets objectives and expectations.
Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree in a Communications or related field or related curriculum. Master's degree preferred; Evidence of ongoing professional development.
5-8 years' experience in corporate, employee, or marketing communications, with editorial involvement from concept development to graphic production, both print and electronic. Demonstrated talent and proficiency in analytical thinking, writing, and editing.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with all levels and functions within the corporation to foster partnership and teamwork.
Demonstrated understanding of web layout and usability guidelines, as well as practical applications of SEO/SEM strategies as it relates to content.
Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software and tools used in the HMI office environment to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobrat, and Polycom videoconferencing. Has basic knowledge and experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and other desktop publishing software.
