TheAtlantic.com is looking for an experienced writer and editor to help develop our coverage of a broad range of health-related topics – from medical research to alternative and preventive therapies, to psychology, sex and relationships, food and drugs, especially in historical and cultural contexts. Responsibilities Include: •Writing and commissioning work with distinctive Atlantic perspective on health that emphasizes intelligence, voice, and range•Helping conceive innovative ways of covering the terrain and of generating ideas for ongoing features•Helping recruit new contributors•Editing and producing posts before publicationQualifications of the Ideal Candidate:•Can find the most interesting aspect of a story and convey it in a clear, engaging, and distinctive way•Has at least two years’ experience as a writer or editor•Has significant experience in digital media – assigning, editing, producing, and writing stories/posts for the Web•Has a deep understanding of how to attract and engage a digital audience including, but not limited to, using social media•Can spot talent, build and manage a team, and operate independently•Matches a creative, innovative, experimental sensibility with high editorial standards and attention to detail•Has a journalistic sensibility that fits Atlantic values: intelligent, fair, accurate, fast, curious, provocative, news-drivenCore Attributes:•Force of Ideas - At the center of Atlantic Media work are the ideas within our writing.
