Gannett seeks a President and Publisher of Des Moines Register Media in Des Moines, Iowa. The President and Publisher is responsible for operational, strategic and financial success of Register Media and for establishing a culture of success. Additionally, the President and Publisher of Des Moines Register Media will have oversight of the media companies in Iowa City, IA; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and St. Cloud, Minnesota as the Regional President. As publisher and regional president, the top executive leads the overall management and operation of the local media company and ensures that the leaders in Iowa City, Sioux Falls and St. Cloud are operating in alignment with the Company’s strategic plan. This is accomplished in part through effective change leadership, and by having a firm understanding of the changing digital-media landscape and how it impacts our business. The successful publisher and regional president will hire and hold employees accountable for business results and key performance indicator achievement. The four key responsibility areas are leadership, selecting and developing people, building engaging and relevant products and achieving profitability objectives. The position reports to the Central Group President.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership – Leading with Foresight
•Leadership of the organization and setting the strategic vision.
•Change management efforts that include strong communication of the company’s strategic initiatives, local purpose, vision and plan.

•Lead world-class sales and marketing efforts to achieve company objectives.

•Lead in a highly competitive industry and provide community leadership.
•Provide leadership in local news, investigative journalism and public service. Be informed and knowledgeable of local news, government, and the direction of the community.

People Management & Development

•Ensure audience development and subscriber retention strategy is active and aligned with advertiser priorities.
•Develop and enhance digital products to grow revenue and strengthen the market footprint.
•Build strategic partnerships that improve position in the marketplace and drive results.




Profit – Managing for Results
•Ensure achievement of financial objectives, including revenue, expense and operating profit for all sites of responsibility /oversight.
•Monitor and require adherence to Gannett’s financial guidelines, policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
•Minimum of five years in a top leadership role.
•Experience working in industries undergoing substantial change and transformation.
•Experience driving a successful turnaround or transformation highly desirable
•Demonstrated track record of increasing top line revenue.
•Demonstrated track record in recruiting a World-Class leadership team highly desirable.
•A history of successful leadership, innovation and goal achievement
•Candidates with a demonstrated history of creating growth and building market share are preferred
•Change leader who collaborates and communicates effectively.
•Personal charisma and “presence” – to drive business to the company.
•Understands the changing media landscape and can adapt strategies to address market and consumer change.
•Marketing aptitude, experience very helpful.
•Demonstrates strong competitive instincts and intellectual curiosity.
