Senior Writer (LNG) - Platts
The position reports on the trading activity in LNG markets. This senior position has in-depth knowledge of the price information and market intelligence gathering activities; and how the price formation process. The position has advanced experience publishing market commentaries, news and in-depth analysis stories. The position is also involved in methodology development, and serves externally as a LNG expert.Responsibilities: Advanced understanding price formation process in more than one commodity market Able to provide analytical insight into price trends Contributes extensively to methodology develop and manages complex pricing methodology issues Mentors other editors on price assessment issues Identifies new markets where commodity price benchmarks are needed Writes proposals and aggregate industry feedback on potential methodology changes Researches market trading terms and practices Able to provide price methodology training both internally and externally Reviews assessments and formulas used for producing price assessments to validate Ensures copy and commentary is accurate, and aligns with pricing trends; establishing best practices and systems to improve quality Achieves annual Data Quality Initiative targets Maintains internal documentation including: market beat how-to’s; source lists and reporting notes Adheres to relevant editorial standards and COE that govern market reporting practices Provides support to other staff: reviewing and editing commentaries, stories and price tables; and training on assessment processes Advanced research skills Reports on a wide variety of issues that impact commodity markets including, price trends, infrastructure issues; supply-demand trends and issues; regulatory issues Produces regular news stories that are well-written, clean copy that conforms to AP and Platts house style Adept at understanding and developing news/information relevant to readership Produces daily commentaries that pair with price assessments Regularly produces in-depth analytical/enterprise articles Develops and maintains productive relationships with a broad base of key industry sources Maintains frequent contact with sources via phone; IM and in-person visits. Adept at leveraging sources for stories, price information and methodology development Qualifications Required: BA degree in journalism or business 6 years of reporting/writing/analytical experience Well-rounded communication skills with the ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally. Clear, concise writing style; strong copy editing skills Displays a leadership presence that utilizes influence, and promotes team collaboration and development, as well as personal accountability. Displays strong numeracy including ability to conceptualize proportional relationships; understands the basic principles of algebra and statistics; as well as a strong ability to apply basic math functions in Excel. Has a solid understanding of economics principles and of risk management principles. Adept at overseeing the work of a team and identifying improvements and efficiencies that can benefit the broader group.
