The Acquiring Editor will work closely with the Publisher, Art Director, and Marketing team to research and create book projects with a clearly defined customer, as well as sales channels to reach them. They will seek out and contract authors and photographers, and oversee the editing and production of 10-15 new titles annually.

Job Responsibilities:
• Acquire and edit 10-15 new titles annually
•Read and review new proposals for content and marketability
•Part of editorial group discussing new ideas and reviewing unsolicited proposals
•Present new projects to the Publication Board
•Locate and contract authors and photographers for approved projects
•Work with design managers to coordinate photography
•Editorial and administrative tasks with book and calendar editorial and production
•Keeps titles on budget
•Keeps abreast of developments in designated subject areas
•Review copy edits, proofs, covers, layouts and other material as required and on schedule

•3+ years experience acquiring and editing related enthusiast or consumer-based books or magazines
•University degree
•Highly creative and enterprising with an ability to conceive of new and innovative book ideas
•Sharp eye for editorial accuracy & strong writing skills
•Superior written and verbal communication skills
•Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
•Thorough knowledge of media, public relations, and publicity organizations and/or book publishing
•Understanding of and appreciation for enthusiasts and enthusiast publishing
•Computer skills, including familiarity with spreadsheets, word processing, database, and desktop publishing
•Excellent organizational skills
•Self-starter with ability to follow through and execute efficiently
•Strong knowledge of the subject areas of country living, self-reliance, sustainability, raising livestock, hobby farming, cooking, and related popular culture
