Rodale is currently seeking a PT Rights Analyst in the Emmaus, PA office.

PART TIME - On average, 30 hours / week

Responsible and accountable for gathering, interpreting and entering intellectual property (IP) rights and limitations for all acquired content contracts and permissions into corporate rights information systems (Roman/ K4/ Compass) in a timely manner. Has assigned accounts but is familiar with rights for all asset types.

Expectations for this role include: Analyst will quickly learn publishing IP standards, corporate rights system (Roman) and legal protocols; thereafter has the necessary knowledge and interpersonal skills to work independently with minimum of supervision. May advise or train others on how to interpret rights and use content; may perform QA for assigned area of specialty. Collaborative team member who works closely with other Rights colleagues and Legal staff.

Responsibilities include:
•Handles record setup, PDF scans, data entry; sets table values per rights terms (20%).
•Links data to corresponding asset – text, image or video -- for fastest availability to system users; verifies accuracy in Compass search and display modes (40%)
•Understands legal terminology in contracts; interprets and mirrors all edits and modifications by adjusting table data with clarity, timeliness, and accuracy. (20%)
•Advises others; answers daily inquiries with a minimum of supervision (20%)
•Works diligently to uncover and solve incomplete/ problematic rights with diplomacy. Reports technical malfunctions; keeps supervisor and team informed; creates spreadsheets for special assignments and reports as needed. (ongoing)
•Stays apprised of evolving policy and business practices as they relate to Intellectual Property Rights and Rodale publishing, such as syndication, social media and third party requests, International rights, etc. Consults supervisor and Legal as appropriate.

•Four-year undergrad degree in appropriate or related field
•Paralegal, library science or detailed research background highly desirable
•Minimum one (1) year experience working in a database business system. Familiar with creating and maintaining digital records and how data interrelates in a database
•Exceptional attention to detail; organized self-starter, proactive and accurate
•Flexible independent thinker; efficient, resourceful, comfortable with evolving policy
•Articulate, professional communicator w/ excellent reading, writing, language analytics
•Microsoft Office Word and Excel skills intermediate level or above; Adobe Acrobat literate
•Competent Internet research and PC computer keyboarding skills
•Strong sense of ethics; demonstrated respect for both legal and business viewpoints
•Ability to read, view and work with large volumes of print/ interactive matter on screen
•Knowledge of intellectual property rights, author and photography contracts a strong plus.
•Previous publishing, permissions work or database experience is highly desirable.
