Associate Product Director

Hanley Wood, www.hanleywood.com, is currently seeking an Associate Product Director in our Business Media unit. The product team sets strategy, owns their numbers and builds innovative products. We are looking for a motivated product team member who will challenge the norm and continually innovate and learn. This includes authoring of website development strategies that reflect sales and editorial goals, as well as development and management of tactical initiatives to grow revenue and audiences.

Major Job Responsibilities and Related Duties:

Understand and lead the analysis of the competitive environment, customers, and product metrics to determine the right feature set to drive engagement.
Drive product planning and product design of new product features and enhancements.
Nurture a deep understanding of audiences and technology solutions to rapidly and profitably innovate around emerging technologies, e.g. Social Media and mobile solutions.
Work closely with key stakeholders (Group Publisher, Editors, Marketing and Technology) to develop a strategy that grows revenue and contribution and that builds audience across multiple channels including web, email and mobile devices.

For tactical development initiatives:

Work with key stakeholders to define product requirements.
Surface and resolve objections.
Author the development plan (including editorial features, business plan / ROI projection and technology requirements) and develop consensus across stakeholders to support it.
Act as project manager for the teams involved in product implementation.
In general, drive adoption and profitability of the new product.
Work with Audience Operations to define and implement optimized advertising opportunities.
Track audience development via surveys and usability research, identify areas of weakness or opportunity and work with relevant teams to define and implement solutions.
Must be adept at working in cross-functional teams to meet strategic and tactical goals.

In addition to the responsibilities covered above this would include the following:

Cultivate relationships with key editorial and sales leaders.
Develop a sound understanding of the technology underlying the publishing and web delivery processes to enable effective partnering with the technology team.
Work with web production team to implement new products to audience.

Minimum Skills and Experience:

Must be passionate about the internet, emerging web and mobile solutions, preferably in an agile software development environment.
BS/BA Degree plus minimum 5 -7 years relevant work experience.
Entrepreneurial and able to find creative solutions to problems that turn them into business growth opportunities.
Strong project management and team leadership skills.
Detail-oriented, well organized and able to assume responsibility for specific project deliverables.
Experience in successfully managing deadline-driven projects and able to work as part of a team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Desire to achieve 100% success on every project.
Must be able to interact with diverse groups of technical and non-technical people.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Additional Skills and Experience Desired:

Bachelor’s degree required; MBA degree preferred.
