Provide quality, comprehensive aviation news and feature video stories to AOPA Live. Generate story ideas, research stories, serve as associate field producer/videographer for AOPA reporters, produce and shoot stories. Edit video for use on AOPA Live and other media. Create graphics (over-the-shoulder, info graphics, title animations, info animations, etc.) for AOPA Live video projects.

1. Stay informed on general aviation news and issues confronting general aviation. Be familiar with AOPA communication goals and advocacy positions.
2. Use news judgment to help Executive Producer determine what stories to cover and how to present them. Proactively seek out news and feature stories to ensure a steady flow of weekly content for AOPA Live.
3. Produce news and feature video stories.
4. Shoot and edit video stories to conform to professional-level production values.
5. Create professional level graphics and animations.
6. Review videos for editorial and technical quality and conformance with AOPA Live standards and practices.
7. Encode video for web and other media playback.
8. Crew live webcasts as TD, audio operator or camera operator.
9. Maintain video equipment, equipment locker, and video archives.


Bachelor degree in mass media, journalism, broadcasting, film/TV production, video graphics or related fields. Professional experience may substitute for degree.

Two to four years’ experience in an editorial newsroom, preferably TV news, or video production house experience.

Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and tell a story using video, and create supporting graphics.

Superior communication skills.

Ability to maintain amicable working relationships with co-workers, management, industry representatives, and the public.

Ability to work on multiple projects under time pressure deadlines similar to daily TV newscast.

Demonstrated skills as a videographer, including knowledge of composition, lighting, audio, and shooting for editing.

Knowledge of common news and feature video techniques.

Knowledge of professional level video equipment, including cameras, remote equipment and studio equipment.

Strong skills in video editing, with demonstrated ability using NLE software such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or Avid.

Strong skills with AfterEffects, Illustrator and PhotoShop.

Knowledge of video encoding for web and other media playback.

Willingness to work unscheduled hours including evenings and weekends.

Willingness to travel, including in small general aviation aircraft.

Knowledge of the general aviation industry. Pilot certificate preferred.
