Grosset & Dunlap in our Young Readers division is looking for an Assistant/Associate Art Director. This person manages all stages of book design and production – coordinating titles from concept to completion while assisting the art director in helping oversee day to day operations of the design group. If you are a talented designer with managerial experience, this may be the opportunity for you!Specifically, the Assistant/Associate Art Director:1.Works closely with the Art Director to mentor and direct the design team by providing creative and technical guidance.2.Designs and manages all stages of book production-for both covers and interiors-for approximately 40-50 books per year. Responsibilities herein include commissioning artwork, hiring freelancers, trafficking material for approval; maintaining schedules, prepping files for output for both physical and e-book formats.3.Works closely with various groups to keep open communication and manage relationships with licensors, the design, marketing and licensing teams, and outside artists and agents.4.Helps create and manage best practices for the design group.5.Oversees reprints, training, and our digital workflow.6.Mentors and trains interns.Please apply if you meet the minimum qualifications:•Minimum of a BFA degree in graphic arts and/or design.•Minimum 6-7 years prior design experience.•Experience managing a staff.•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.•Strong organizational skills with strong attention to detail.•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.•Ability to multi-task multiple projects while adhering to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.•Proficiency with the latest creative programs such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and Bridge.Preferred qualifications include:•Experience working with licensors on media tie-in projects.Please email your resume and cover letter with salary requirement to firstname.lastname@example.org indicating "Assistant/Associate Art Director - Grosset & Dunlap" in the subject line.
