The Northside Media Group, publisher of The L Magazine and Brooklyn Magazine, is looking for an Editorial Fellow. The ideal candidate will be in active pursuit of a career in journalism, with a focus on cultural reporting and criticism. Voracious media consumption is key, as is the ability to react quickly and strongly to news stories and trends across a wide range of topics, especially those with a local angle. The Editorial Fellowship is largely a writing position. This person will be expected to pitch stories daily and should generally be working on multiple pieces at once, from two- or three-paragraph news posts to larger, heavily reported articles. In addition, responsibilities will include helping other editors with research, compiling event listings for our websites, and some light copyediting. We're looking for someone to commit three full days per week, or roughly 25 hours. A stipend of $800 per month will be provided, and the fellowship lasts for three months. (If we like each other and you turn out to be really good at this, and lots other things fall into place, then yes, sure, there's a possibility this could become something more permanent.)To apply, send a cover letter, resumé and some recent writing samples to firstname.lastname@example.org. Your cover letter should be in the body of your email, and whenever possible, please provide links to writing samples rather than attaching them Basically, the fewer things you send as attachments, the more likely we are to hire you. Feel free to attach you're resumé, though.
