- Lead NBC 7 San Diego's social media and engagement efforts by working with and training all staff (on-air, off-air and online) to use social media tools to monitor and report news, find sources and leads for stories.
- Oversee monitoring of mainstream and social media for story ideas and competitive intelligence.
- Mentoring, training and inspirational leadership abilities essential.
- Identify buzz-worthy stories of the day and engage your local audience across platforms
- Ensure that NBC 7 San Diego social media accounts are engaging and timely sources of breaking news, and, where appropriate, source individual journalists from the station. While we're not on-air 24/7, you should ensure that our social media channels are a continuous source of information for consumers in the market and have a consistent voice.
- Live-blogging of events and breaking news.
- Write for NBC 7 San Diego where appropriate.
- Identify other local individuals and entities with influence who can help in the overall NBC 7 San Diego news-gathering process.
- Promote and aggregate NBC 7 San Diego journalists (on-air and online), serve as a recognized expert within the industry on social media topics, and build NBC 7 San Diego's brand on social networks
- Serve as a top advocate for social media in the newsroom. Evangelize the changing landscape and need for change around social media and new consumer habits within the wider NBC 7 San Diego news operation. This will involve spending time in the field with individual reporters, with producers in the newsroom and with photographers.
- Update, monitor, and respond as the voice of NBC 7 Social channels, including NBC San Diego facebook, @nbcsandiego, @thescenesd, @worththedrivesd, The Goods SD facebook, @thegoodssd
- Track growth of all NBC 7 San Diego social accounts on a monthly basis
- Work closely with Marketing, Promotions, & Community on various promotions and initiatives
- Attend weekly Marketing meetings (Wednesday 10am).
- Launch 2+ social contests/sweepstakes monthly in an effort to increase following.
- Coordinate with promotions, marketing, and on-air to leverage promotional assets driving audience to social channels.
- Consult NBC 7 San Diego advertisers on Social Media marketing strategy.
- Excellent social media knowledge and skill set including advanced knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Instagram, Linked-In and other comparable and up and coming social medial sites.
- Good news instincts with the ability to react decisively and quickly to breaking news; combined with the ability to write succinctly and with flair.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to transition breaking news and developing stories into dynamic social media content.
- Ability to work in a team and across all departments and locations, ensuring a smooth, professional and Social Media experience that is consistent with our brand image.
- Act as a training advocate and facilitator to ensure that staff is properly using social media tools.
- Flexible, with a willingness to undertake work as assigned.
- Experience of working in content management systems required.
- At least 3 years experience in print, online or television news in a medium to large sized market desired.
- Bachelor's degree in communication, marketing, journalism or related field.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
- Prior supervisory/delegation experience preferred.
- Fluency in English to native standard.
