WSJ Custom Studios, the custom content division of The Wall Street Journal marketing department, has been established to create best-in-class branded content solutions that resonate with our unique and powerful audience.


Location: New York, Chicago or San Francisco
Territory: Either West Coast or East Coast/Mid West



• Generate revenue through the sale of content marketing solutions to clients located in your territory
• Work with Global Publisher to develop, implement and adhere to a personal business development plan
• New business development activities (cold calls, face to face meetings) required to create a pipeline of future opportunities
• Identify and present to potential new accounts within assigned territory
• Work closely with the WSJ Custom studios and Integrated Marketing teams to ensure the creation of high-quality proposals
• Work collaboratively with the main WSJ sales team to develop proactive ideas for accounts located within your region
• Respond to agency-driven RFPs, to ensure content marketing solutions are included where relevant
• Manage all sales related expenses within the agreed territory and ensure spend levels do not exceed budget levels
• Prepare timely sales reports, noting calls made per month, sales invoiced, pipeline, monthly, quarterly, and end year forecasts
• To keep up to date with the WSJ Custom studios portfolio and the competitive marketplace

Performance measures:

• Exceeding revenue targets and achieving monthly sales call quota within the territory
• Evidence of expanding the client-base
• Clear, constant, accurate reporting
• High quality management and servicing of existing accounts
• Maintaining the professional image of The Wall Street Journal in all communications and dealings with clients and prospects

Skills and capabilities profile:

• Ideal candidate should be a strategic thinker, persistent cold caller and goal-driven
• Consummate collaborator within a team framework
• Consultative sales experience a must
• Ability to stay informed and up to date on industry trends, the competition and changing technology to better understand sales opportunities
• High degree of familiarity with
• This role requires travel within the assigned territory


• Bachelor's degree required; major in Marketing/Advertising/Communications is highly preferred
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Content Marketing/Custom Publishing sales gained in a publisher or agency environment is necessary
• Prior experience in digital and print advertising sales is a plus
• Experience in managing high level accounts
• Superior verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Excellent organizational and project management skills
• Strong one on one and group presentations skills
