The role involves extensive contact with authors and potential authors, review of solicited and unsolicited proposals, negotiation of contract terms, preparation of manuscripts for production, collaborations with colleagues regarding sales, marketing, and budgeting of editorial projects, and long range strategic planning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Heavy research on potential publication ideas including new trends in the market, with an eye toward niche markets. Keep abreast of not only book industry trends but current popular culture, lifestyle and internet trends.

2.Select for reprinting by Dover previously published books which have gone out of print with their original publishers. Once acquired the Acquisitions Editor will work with authors on corrections, revisions, adding new Introductions or other new material.

3.Research copyright status of potential publishing projects, which potential projects are available , research published reviews of titles under consideration, and general library research.

4.Develop book ideas, work to develop an overall vision of the book, a working outline, possible sales avenues and evidence of need.

5.Product P&L responsibility and accountability for owning and delivering revenue and Profitability to the company. Must establish the financial base for selected works by creating P&L’s, Book Data Sheets and researching past sales models. Must monitor budget to ensure we achieve financial goals.

6.Locating and working with outside consultants and reviewers, locating authors and negotiating contracts with them and working with the contracts administrator to ensure that Letters of Agreement are drafted and sent.

7.Present new book proposals to the Editorial Board. Communicate the vision and direction for the acquired book to its editor and see that vision through to the final product.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
•A Bachelor’s Degree or higher (Humanities preferred) or 3 years relevant professional experience

•Very strong sense of contemporary culture, trends and potential niches

•Ability to analyze market data is critical to the success of this position. Must be able to pull information from our database and analyze sales trends.

•Very strong computer skills, including use of MS Word, Excel and Outlook

•Excellent communicate skills. Skilled at negotiating with others, especially authors or author’s estates

•Ability to work on several projects at once, including projects at different stages of development

•Ability to meet deadlines, problem-solve and coordinate with other departments


This position will be working out of our Mineola, NY office. This is not a telecommuting opportunity.
