Your tasks
The Creative Director leads the design department at Ten Speed Press and directs all aspects of visuals for the company. The position reports to VP Associate Publisher, and will partner with Publisher and AP to determine the visual identity of Ten Speed and our publishing program.

?Oversee the look and feel of the imprint and its products
?Direct all aspects of design, including books, digital products, corporate communications, and marketing collateral
?Supervise and inspire the six-person creative team
?Lead creative sessions for project kick-offs
?Oversee the selection of creative teams for all projects
?Provide quality control over concepts and projects
?Manage budgets according to book P & Ls
?Source, hire, and direct freelancers when needed: write creative briefs, negotiate and process contracts, and review all incoming work
?Negotiate photographers? and illustrators? fees and contracts
?Design and art direct 6?8 lead titles per year
?Art direct other photography shoots as needed
?Direct promotion / marketing design for any product (catalog, brochures, invitations, presentations, etc.)
?Act as advisor on visual matters in acquisitions meeting
?Bring new trends in design and content to the company, and actively contribute to new project development
?Work with associate publisher and editorial director on systems and workflow planning

?A high collaborative work style, with the ability to interact positively and effectively with editorial, marketing and publicity, production, as well as authors, photographers, and other outside suppliers
?Exceptional visual judgment, with constantly refreshed creative ideas and active input regarding the development of the list as a whole
?Good communication: a clear, articulate spokesperson for design
?The ability to manage and direct with confidence and finesse, showing an affinity for mentoring and developing design team members
?Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and timely and efficient follow-up
?Open to new ideas
?Possess a strong grasp of design technology, including emerging digital publishing platforms
?Connected to the larger design community and mindful of industry best practice
