Assistant EditorBloomsbury Children’s Books & Walker Books for Young ReadersWe are looking for an energetic, bright, hard-working person to join the Bloomsbury Children’s editorial team. The workload is varied and unique, including, but not limited to: generating tipsheets, writing flap/cover copy and catalog copy, editing manuscripts, reading and critiquing projects in development as well as solicited submissions, running P & L’s, title acquisition support (contract requests, acquisition memos, check requests, title management systems work, etc.), keeping an eye on trends in the marketplace. Titles will range in genre and format: hardcovers and paperbacks (fiction and nonfiction), all ages from picture books through teen. This position will report to two people, the editorial director for Bloomsbury and the Publishing Director for Walker, and in addition to some editorial support work, he/she will have distinct roles within the Bloomsbury team, including:* Project editor, helping out on book development (editing, critiquing, writing, researching, trafficking) and ideally editing independently on select titles.* Title manager of paperback conversions for both lists (approx. 30/year) which includes generating production packets, teaser and back matter material, and new cover treatments; writing cover copy, catalog copy, tipsheets, etc.* In-house US editor for Bloomsbury UK-generated projects, working closely with UK editors and designers.This is an extraordinary opportunity for an aspiring editor who is looking to work hard, learn a lot, and truly grow in an energetic and encouraging work environment. Technical skills required are Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, and candidate must be comfortable using data entry systems. Candidate must have a four year undergraduate degree and 1-3 years experience in editorial.
