General Purpose of the job:
The position of Macintosh Application Engineer is to develop new workflows, standards, solutions, and processes that will be essential to the Macmillan Global Trade Art, Editorial, and Production departments.

The position entails a high level understanding of how Art, Editorial, and Production environments function. The ability to analyze how current departmental workflows and processes work and improve them.

The ability to utilize technology and improve employee’s productivity is essential. Understanding the ROI philosophy that leverages technology that’s also the right fit for our unique environment.

The candidate must possess the ability to project manage multiple projects. The ability to organize, motivate, and coordinate with multiple vendors, departments, and staff is essential.

The candidate must have experience working in a Publishing environment. Experience working with Pre-press, Production, XML, and Editorial are essential. Future projects involve creating procedures and implementing technology that will impact multiple departments. The ability to understand all aspects of publishing is essential. Understanding how Editorial departments work and implementing process that also focuses on POD

The position also requires the ability to write and produce clear, precise, user level and engineering level documentation. Experience with creating documentation is a must have requirement.

The position also involves providing the Global Macmillan Macintosh user community with a high-level of support for applications and workflow specific to Art, Design, Editorial, and Production.

The ability to continually support, develop guidelines, set standards, and create process and protocol for Macmillan Global Trade. The understanding that successful processes and workflows will need to be continually updated and tweaked to maintain success while keeping up with the growing business needs.

The position involves developing, coordinating, maintaining, project managing, documenting, and training new workflows designed to enhance productivity, quality of work, communication, time savings, and cost efficiencies where applicable.
The position also requires some travel to the UK, Germany, and Australia.
Requirements



Qualifications/Skills:

Developing workflows, process and standards that improve a multitude of Macmillan Global Trade’s departmental workflows.

The ability to identify and implement technology that improves workflow.

Coordinating with Production and our print vendors – identifying issues and improving process.

Identifying outdated processes and improving them with simple technology.

Provide high-level support and troubleshooting for Macintosh users; specific focus on the Adobe CS Suite and Digital Workflow.

Developing user documentation and training materials.

Creating new workflows across the environment.

Interacting with design, production, and editorial personnel; building customer relations while understanding how to improve process.

Creating application standards – customizing application preferences

Developing best practice workflows and procedures

Developing new modules and components for digital workflow.

Coordinating with freelancers, consultants, and vendors.

Coordinating new workflows and projects based on departmental needs and requests.

Research and development.

Project Management

Create daily reports for management.

And other responsibilities, duties or tasks defined or given by management

Work with engineering to design and deploy solutions to the desktop.

Interact with Design, Editorial, and Production personnel build good customer relations and service.

Tech support for application issues that require advanced troubleshooting or vendor contact.

Participating in rolling out new software and workflows

Color Proofer Management – maintaining ink and paper supply levels, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting.

Handles and tracks routine incidents and problems and develop support procedures, technical documentation and other related documentation

Developing best practice workflows and procedures

Training users on new workflows.

Supporting the digital workflow inniative

Coordinate creating training materials and curriculum for Mac users.

Create documentation for processes, procedures and application usage.

Coordinate creating training for End User policy (fonts, email, music, etc.) and procedures.

Qualifications/Skills:


• Typically has 5 or more years in Macintosh support or having been a designer/traffic coordinator within a publishing or design environment.
• In depth knowledge of standard Macintosh applications including Adobe CS Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.
• In depth knowledge of Fonts, Font Licensing, and Font Management.
• In depth knowledge of OSX operating system
• The ability to work on complex projects through their completion is required. Creative thinking and productive solutions are encouraged.
• Experience with pre-press and printing technologies.
• Must be able to maintain a high level of customer service and support with a strong customer focus.
• The ability to develop documentation and training materials.
• The ability to train users on new workflows and processes.
• The ability to train/demo new features within the Adobe CS Suite.
• Familiarity with remote support via ARD, Casper Remote, etc.
• Knowledge and experience of basic networking technologies and IP
• Experience with other platforms a plus
• Proven ability to function with minimal direction in completing tasks and responsibilities.
