We have an exciting opportunity for a Designer to join our Children's Books Group!

• Organize, design and manage several of own picture book and novel projects per season with guidance from supervisor or Associate Director.
• Work collaboratively with all members of the team on the development of the project from concept to finish.
• Effective written and oral communication directly with artists as needed.
• Take initiative in course of each project to problem-solve, trouble-shoot, demonstrate consistent follow-through and meet deadlines.
• Color correct and attend press oks when possible.
• Archive all projects in DAM, keep supervisor informed of project status and keep production status on server updated

As needed:
• Provide administrative or design support to Supervisor.
• Responsibly manage original art-Scan, log in, track, circulate and return, as needed for all assigned projects
• Return dead matter for all assigned projects
• General assistance on special projects.

• 3-5 years of experience in childrens book design dept.
• Must have some experience with picture book development and bookmaking process
• Knowledge of current published illustrators, and resources for discovering new artists desired, especially in picture book genre
• Strong Macintosh computer skills, and design skills using Quark, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator essential.
• Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, and ability to set priorities under pressure.
• Solid understanding of production process, color correction of proofs, timely routing of materials
• Demonstration of good design sense, organization and communicative skills.
• Team player and genuine interest in Children's books.
• College Degree or equivalent work experience. Course work in graphic design, typography and illustration desired.
