KTUU, a nationally award-winning station in Anchorage, Alaska, is seeking a Graphics Director. This position is responsible for designing graphics and animations, including working with the News Director to design the overall "look" of the station's graphics package as a whole. The Graphics Designer must also be capable of directing live newscasts, promotions, and special events, including long-form broadcasts.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
• Must be able create effective graphics, animations, and rich media to meet the needs of multiple departments
• Create graphics and animations for news and promotions production
• Work with directors and department heads to police the overall look of the station
• Work with producers on graphic expectations
• Maintain current knowledge of newsroom needs (severe weather, breaking news)
• Create and maintain design guidelines for broadcast and web graphics
• Responsible for prioritizing and organizing multiple projects and assignments with targeted deadlines
• Must be able to serve as part of a team ,as well as work independently, and fill in other roles of the department as needed
• Ongoing training to stay current on graphic design knowledge and trends
• Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned

Required Skills & Abilities:
• Expert knowledge of design software, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, and Vizrt preferred
• Experience with editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Grass Valley Edius and 3D animation software a plus
• Exhibit an exceptional understanding of the principles of user-centered visual design, layout, usability and interaction
• Ability to develop and maintain a clear and consistent graphic look for multiple brands across multiple platforms, including, broadcast, web, and mobile
• Experience with HD video production, editing, and graphics animation
• Manage all aspects of assigned projects to meet requirements and deadlines set by supervisor and expectations of clients
• Working knowledge of studio camera, Final Cut Pro, Vizrt and Chyron, Photoshop, audio and lighting
• At all times expected to direct other productions, such as a live broadcast or live-to-tape in the studio or on a remote production
• Must have a good working knowledge of video switchers, still stores, video editors, and multiple tape and tapeless formats
• Strong knowledge of television production
• Able to create/save/recall/modify and implement effects using switcher
• Able to direct and call commands/instruction during newscasts
• Must have excellent visual sense
• Must be able to maneuver studio cameras and pedestals to different heights, locations and angles
• Must be able to follow written and verbal direction, as well as give input to other less senior graphic producers
• Willingness to work flexible hours and ability to work well with co-workers
• Strong initiative and attention to detail is required, excellent organizational skills
• Ability to work with limited supervision
• Ability to handle multiple projects at once, and to excel under extreme pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to remain positive and foster a positive work environment
• Must strive to continually improve technical knowledge and creative skills, and to keep abreast of graphic trends
• Must be results-oriented, articulate, enthusiastic, a self-starter and passionate about the creative process
We’re seeking someone with 3 years’ experience designing graphics for broadcast, and 1-3 years’ experience directing fast-paced live newscasts with multiple live shots. A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communications or a related field – or equivalent work experience – is required. A valid driver’s license, with a good driving background, is also required.
