Requirements:
•Three years experience writing/editing life-science news
•Undergraduate life-science degree; graduate degree in science or science writing a plus
•Virtual (Must be available 9-5, Eastern time)

Responsibilities:
•Assign and edit daily news stories, scientist-written opinions, and The Nutshell column (short summaries of life-science news published by other outlets). News stories will include embargoed study stories, short turn-around investigative pieces, in-depth reporting of new trends in research and technology, and weekly “Culture Friday” pieces exploring the intersection of science, art, music, theater, dance, and film.
•Identify breaking stories and work with the other editors, contract writers, freelancers, and interns to develop the content and post it to the website Monday through Friday.
•Build and send The Scientist Daily and other specialty newsletters sent to subscribers.
•Manage overall content on www.the-scientist.com.
•Serve a supporting role to the print editors, writing content for all sections of the magazine and helping to proof pages prior to issue closing.
