Full Time
Being an associate editor at New York Family is a wonderful opportunity for someone interested in lifestyle journalism to significantly deepen their editorial experience and responsibilities. As part of our small, close-knit team, you would work with the other top editors to develop, assign and edit every part of the magazine, from cover stories to columns, from service packages to personal essays. You would also play an important role in producing our website and helping to manage our social media.

The job offers opportunity, camaraderie and lots of intellectual challenges. Indeed, one of its best aspects is getting to think about such a broad range of subjects, including education, health and wellness, travel, green living, weekend fun, New York City, pregnancy, family dynamics, and, of course, child development. We encourage you to visit to get a better feel for the enterprise.

People who thrive as editors at New York Family are highly literate, thoughtful, curious, and responsible team players. They are interested in lifestyle/family related material and have very strong editing and writing skills. The associate editor position would be ideal for a person in the beginning phase of their career who already has had substantial experience writing and/or editing for school publications and internships, or for an editorial assistant or editorial associate looking for a substantial step up in responsibility.

That said, we welcome applications from anyone who thinks they might have the right mix of talent, responsibility and interest, including career-changers and parents looking to get back in the work force.

Interested candidates should send a resume, a few writing samples (if you have them), and most importantly a cover letter explaining why you would be a good match for the Associate Editor position.

Email is best. Send materials to Eric Messinger at, and put "Associate Editor" in the subject line.

Thank you
