Higher Education Finance/Management Reporter
Inside Higher Ed (http://www.insidehighered.com), a growing, successful national daily online publication covering the complex and compelling world of higher education, is seeking an experienced, enterprising reporter to cover the financing and management of colleges and universities. Much of higher education is under great financial strain and management strain, and our readers will look to this reporter to help them understand which types of colleges have viable business models, how effective (and ineffective) presidents operate, and how state and federal policies help or hurt institutions. Just a few of the many timely issues on this reporter's agenda: the legitimacy of the "higher education bubble," escalating presidents' salaries, tuition pricing and discounting, and endowment booms and busts. Our reporters mix beat reporting, analysis and creative approaches to telling stories; candidates should be able to juggle multiple articles at once, and should like to dig deeply and to learn. Candidates should have at least two years of full-time professional reporting experience; a background covering business and/or higher education is a plus. (Financial and management issues will be this reporter's primary beat, but he/she may have a secondary beat equivalent to a college minor.) Inside Higher Ed publishes breaking news, features, commentary, blogs and other content (including audio and video) each weekday, and has quickly established itself as a fresh, authoritative, independent voice for its 1.2 million unique monthly users and 98,000 daily e-mail subscribers. (Inside Higher Ed has another opening right now for a federal government reporter. Candidates are welcome to indicate interest in both positions.
