W.H. Freeman & Company announces an opening for a Marketing or Senior Marketing Manager for the Life Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry and Environmental Science). These lists are among the fastest-growing areas at W.H. Freeman and lie at the center of new initiatives with our sister companies Nature Publishing and Scientific American and our enduring partnership with Sinauer Associates.

Major Responsibilities:

• Create and execute internal and external strategic marketing plans, in coordination with W.H. Freeman/Sinauer Associates marketing and editorial, to promote titles in Biology, Biochemistry and Environmental Science to achieve sales forecasts.
• Provide sales strategy, leadership and sales tracking, and coordinate tactical changes throughout the year.
• Travel with sales representatives to close sales, gather market feedback and train in the discipline.
• Communicate regularly with the sales force regarding the list, competition, important/key adoptions, and sales strategies.
• Develop, and communicate essential product information working with editors, authors, regional specialists and the advertising group.
• Plan and conduct product training sessions via live sales meetings, web conferencing and our learning management system. This includes setting training outcomes and assessments, crafting training activities, directing presenters, and coordinating collateral materials.
• Coordinate our presence at academic conferences and other impact events.
• Ensure full exploitation of digital marketing opportunities including website management, email marketing, and customer relationship management.

Desired Skills & Experience

Required Skills / Knowledge:
• Product knowledge and proven sales history.
• Ability to analyze market data and distill into simple product and strategy messaging.
• Demonstrated proficiency with technology.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to close adoptions.
• Willingness to travel (50% travel during the peak of the selling season)

Experience Needed:

• 3-5 years of successful sales and/or marketing experience in college textbook publishing.
• Experience with digital marketing techniques including email marketing, contextual marketing, website development, web analytics, and customer relationship management is a plus.

Educational Background Required:

• Bachelor's degree
