We are searching for an entrepreneurial General Manager (GM) to function as the “quasi-CEO” of our Travel channel, (one of the largest Travel sites on the internet), Responsible for establishing its overall strategy and subsequent performance. The GM will drive initiatives to grow revenue, page views, engagement and overall user experience, and partner with the channel editor to execute the plan and determine areas of content focus and creation. In addition the GM will champion the channel to our Product and Development teams to facilitate channel growth.

Responsibilities:
•Assess About.com’s Travel and Local sites on several metrics including traffic and revenue trends, search reputation, and user engagement to inform strategy.
•Manage the channel’s profit/loss.
•Evaluate channel and sites; assess performance and yield.
•Collaborate with dedicated editorial resources to ensure quality content is being produced and effectively leveraged to drive traffic and enhance the user experience.
•Analyze competitor strengths and weaknesses.
•Align content-creator fees and contract terms with channel needs and best practices.
•Reposition channel taxonomies to satisfy user needs.
•Develop and research new features and custom channel UI implementations.
•Work closely with groups that manage metrics data, publishing systems, and UI/UX design.
•Act as the public face of the channel, attending trade shows and events, and supporting sales and marketing.
•Conduct direct outreach of online talent to find writers for open topics.
•Drive new product development

Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree from a top tier school. Advanced degree a plus.
•7+ years experience managing a digital media team management experience ,
•Thorough understanding of Content Creation and SEO principles.
•Leadership and teamwork experience.
•Experience with data driven decision systems
•Strong financial, operational, and analytical skills.
•Ability to develop, structure, and implement business strategies.
•Significant familiarity with content management systems, tools and HTML. Experience with analytics systems such as Omniture or Google Analytics, and Excel.
•Strong written and verbal communications skills.
•Ability to travel, as needed.
