About.com is searching for an Editor to drive and support the ongoing evolution, competitiveness and growth of About.com’s Travel & Local channels improving content quality while promoting and marketing content in order to grow traffic, enhance the user experience and foster interaction.

•Assess About.com content regularly for compliance with About.com best practices for quality, tone, style, and user satisfaction.
•Audit existing content to pinpoint topical gaps. Recommend new sites, tools, topic areas, and content partnerships to keep taxonomy current and relevant. Track competitive landscape to identify future trends, potential risks, and opportunities.
•Be the first line of communication between About.com and the travel and local writers.
•Promote the best About.com travel and local content via newsletters, channel and homepages and social media in order to reach and engage with readers, promote our expertise, and drive traffic back to About.com.
•Act as the public face of the channel, attending trade shows and events, doing PR, supporting sales and marketing, and more.
•Experiment with new ways to leverage social media tools, staying on top of current trends and applying that knowledge as appropriate to deepen user interaction and drive traffic.

•Bachelor's Degree from a top tier school required
•3-5 years experience developing online travel or local content and working with content management systems.
•Facility using data to inform and develop content strategy best practices in order to enhance the overall end user experience.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts in simple language via email, online documentation, webinars, phone calls and more.
•Well-versed in current Web trends and concepts, including current SEO and social media best practices.
•Consistently up to date with industry trends related to travel and local content; able to identify topics of interest to a wide audience.
•Detail oriented and deadline focused with solid proofing skills, as well as deep understanding of what works on the web.
•Strong copywriter, capable of writing engaging, lively headlines and blurbs.
•Ability and willingness to be an active contributor in departmental and planning meetings.
•Proactive, flexible team player with a sense of humor and a good attitude, able to roll with the punches and change direction as necessary.
