About the Department:
New York Road Runner’s Brand Marketing and Communications team is charged with managing the organization’s creative services, editorial, advertising, and digital operations. The team’s efforts build upon NYRR’s recent brand initiative and Run for Life platform as the organization seeks to tell the bigger NYRR story of huge positive impact; our ongoing focus on broadening our engagement with runners of all types; our efforts to strengthen our alignment with, and support of, our corporate partners; and our opportunity to unlock the power of our community in supporting our youth- and cause-related efforts.

About the Position:
NYRR has an immediate opening for a part-time Junior Designer/Production Artist in our Creative Services department. This position reports to the Creative Services Director and works closely with the rest of the Creative Services team (a production manager, two creative service project managers, and a part-time assistant). The Creative Services team is part of the Brand Management and Communications group and reports through the Vice President, Marketing. Working with the Digital and Content team and both internal and external designers, the Creative Services team is responsible for managing the design and production of more than a thousand projects each year. This is an in-house part-time position—the ideal candidate will be available 4-5 days per week with extended hours likely during September and October.

Job Responsibilities:

•Work with Creative Services team on event design, production and execution for over forty NYRR events per year including the ING New York City Marathon.
oProjects include, but are not limited to: signage, t-shirts, posters, medals, flyers, ads and other collateral marketing materials
•Extend initial style guides provided by our external agencies into other collateral materials
•Work closely with our external agencies on creating production files for a variety of projects including ads, out of home campaigns and expo graphics
•Layout newsletters and other print items such as media guides and teacher guidelines
•Design ads for corporate partners, merging style guidelines appropriately
•Production design of promotional items, generic signage and other such items
•Primary designer of collateral materials for our Youth and Community Services division.
•Produce and update course maps for all NYRR events
•Layout and produce volunteer handouts for all NYRR events
•Compile and produce visual signage installation plans based on discussions with team
•Update and maintain the NYRR logo drive
•Update and create PowerPoint and Word templates and slides as needed
•Prepare files for printing and publishing
•Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:

•Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field
•Minimum 2 years professional design experience, in-house a plus
•Strong execution of graphic concepts, typography, color and branding
•Print experience a must
•Signage and promotion design a plus
•Must be able to generate new creative concepts while working within established brand standards
•Very proficient with Adobe CS6 in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop for Mac
•Proficiency with Powerpoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office for Mac
•Understand basic image optimization
•Have a general understanding of HTML/CSS and how it translates to web and email
•Capable of basic image retouching
•Understanding of standard proofreader's marks
•Extreme attention to detail
•Excellent time management and planning skills
•Ability to work quickly and accurately under time pressure
•Illustration skills a plus
