Responsibilities:
?Oversee all internal, external and executive communications initiatives and staff
?Direct strategy, coordination and execution for all member-facing communications, including bi-weekly e-newsletter, business and product communications, special events, etc.
?Develop long-term communications strategies and plans for new and ongoing projects to continually elevate the brand and its messages
?Oversee media relations strategy, development and execution
?Coordinate with our legislative department to develop communications around policy and advocacy efforts
?Optimize internal teams across the organization to implement communications initiatives, and manage relationships with outside consultants and agencies
?Lead, mentor and develop communications staff
?Represent Freelancers Union as organizational spokesperson, as needed
?Own editorial content of all web, digital and social media properties, including the FU blog, the Dispatches thought leadership blog, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.—and work closely with our technology department to maintain and optimize these assets
Minimum qualifications
?BA and MA/MS in Journalism, Policy, Political Science, MBA with a social enterprise focus, or relevant graduate degree highly preferred
?10-15 years of experience in communications, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven government, business, media, technology, social purpose or startup environment
?Proven ability to manage up, down and across all levels of seniority and departments, including writers, designers, marketers, technologists and outside vendors
Preferred experience
?Managing communications to diverse audiences (e.g. consumers/general public, government/regulatory, thought leaders, investors, etc.)
?Building and staffing a communications department and integrating communications across an organization
?Conceiving, launching and implementing communications campaigns
?Running political, organizing/advocacy and member engagement campaigns
?Working in high-level corporate and crisis communications
Required Skills
?Very strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once, while retaining the strategic vision of Freelancers Union at all times
?Excellent writing and verbal communications skills
?Highly competent in strategy, planning and organization
?Detail-oriented
