The SVP, Consumer Insights & Research will be a broad thinker with great creative sense who is passionate about our millennial audience. They will have the ability to look into the future and identify weak signals before anyone else, translate information into tangible nuggets and tell a compelling story. S/he will be an internal advocate for our audience, leading all qualitative research efforts to best position our brand and serve our audience across all platforms.

S/he will:

• Lead the Research team and MTV to a better understanding of the consumer, its audience and their interaction with the evolving media landscape.
• Manage and lead all primary and secondary research efforts across all platforms including Programming, Music, Brand and Ad Sales Research.
• Provide qualitative analyses, actionable recommendations and presentations to best position the channel as a preferred network of choice for client’s business.
• Develop high quality research materials in the areas of: Target marketing and consumer segmentation, forecasting and trend analysis, media and advertising effectiveness.
• Keep abreast of various current marketing and media trends.
• Synthesize research and provide recommendations regarding each screen’s major programming, marketing and development decisions including: program scheduling, green lighting new original programming, positioning of the brand, etc.
• Is actively aware of competitors’ programming as well as current and emerging digital media to make recommendations to development and scheduling to ensure the strongest delivery for the MTV brand on all platforms.
• Oversee strategy, methodology, budgeting, staffing, structure, processes, product and communication of results across all areas of research for the MTV brand.
• Lead the senior team to a better understanding of the consumer, its audience and their interaction with the evolving media landscape enabling fully informed decision making across the business.
• Lead effectively and communicate clearly with the objective of gaining buy-in with Senior Management, inspiring others and fostering a team environment.

• Minimum of 12 years of relevant demonstrated experience in senior level Research/Consumer Insights/Planning.
• BS degree in marketing, advertising research or equivalent required, Master’s degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of prior experience effectively managing a team
• Proven track record of success working with fast-paced, consumer facing organizations known for being at the forefront of utilization of Research and Planning.
• Deep knowledge of youth demographic desired and thorough understanding of the impact of new technologies on consumer behavior.
• Strong knowledge of the competitive landscape and must be able to remain current with trends in programming.
• Breadth of research knowledge will encompass all key areas of the organization: Qualitative, Quantitative Programming, Branded/Insights, Digital, Social Media, Programming and Ad Sales.
• Ability to take complicated information and simplify it for advertisers, programming, marketing, press, etc.
• Must be able to recommend strategies to maximize viewership opportunities with a goal of increasing ratings.
• Excellent presentation skills
• Collaborative nature and strong relationship building skills.
• Must exhibit leadership characteristics and abilities.
