Barrons Educational Series, Inc., with its corporate headquarters located in Hauppauge, Long Island has an immediate opening for an experienced Production Manager to manage all phases of book's production from manuscript to bound book to ensure schedule deadlines are met. Estimate, schedule and traffic all components of new book publications. Analyze and order reprint needs for books and packages. Produce purchase orders for typesetting, printing, binding and other book components on first print titles. Produce purchase orders for printing and binding of reprint titles and for package reprint components. THIS IS NOT A SUPERVISORY POSITION; this is a hands-on position to manage the process and flow of book production. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform cost comparison and selection of typesetters, printers and binders and provide management with estimated costs for all book materials.Coordinate scheduling of books with vendors. Traffic all typesetting, proofs, blueprints and color proofs between proofreading, editorial, marketing, foreign publishers and vendors.Prepare all purchase orders for all components of each new publication.Approve and process all invoices for work rendered.Continually search for and negotiate with suppliers for competitive bidding to meet budget requirements.INTERNAL WORKING RELATIONSHIP: Interact with Editorial, Art, Production, Marketing and Proofreading.REQUIREMENTS: Four-year college degree and/or trade school certification or equivalent in actual experience with typesetting, binding methods and color separations. Five years prior work experience in publishing.Ability to handle high volume workload, meet deadlines, work independently as well as collaboratively.
