Responsibilities:

* Write, assign, and/or select opinion pieces that get to the heart of the day's most pressing issues in an insightful and engaging way.
* Line edit submitted opinion pieces for clarity and cleanliness
* Manage the editorial calendar planning process
* Seed opinion pieces, photos/videos into social media and engage with reader responses

Requirements:

You are the right fit for The Root if you are:

* A passionate news junkie and familiar with the web's top news, blogs and social media sites.
* Excited by generating story ideas, working with a team of writers and the prospect of engaging with and fostering debate among readers who comment on opinion and analysis pieces stories.
* Ability to produce smart, clean, and clear opinion pieces, under deadline
* Well-versed in the use of Content Management Systems to use photos, infographics, embedded videos, hyperlinks, headlines and sub-headlines to enhance reader engagement.
* 5+ years line editing experience at one of the web's top news sites.
* Comfortable in a diverse environment of high achieving professionals looking to win the day, everyday.
* A self-motivated individual who takes great pride in delivering high quality work product.
* A college degree with academic distinction and/or demonstrated on-campus leadership experience.
