Reporting to the Director of Communications and Content Strategy, the Manager, Media Relations is responsible for managing, conceptualizing and implementing media outreach for Carnegie Corporation of New York and its grantees. The Manager develops press and new media dissemination plans and is responsible for story pitching, press partnerships, press and multimedia coverage and interview requests, press releases, and more. S/he is also part of a team generating and disseminating original content telling the stories of the Corporation and its grantees, which range from original columns to social and multimedia content. The Manager must be able to plan creative and comprehensive media rollouts of major initiatives that make use of today's vast array of media channels.

Responsibilities:

-Manage the Corporation's public and press relations, including story pitching, writing press releases as well as original stories and posts, and managing all steps through publication and continued dissemination.
-Play a major role in helping to determine traditional and new media strategy both for overall Corporation communications and specific initiatives.
-Serve as primary media liaison and spokesperson for the Corporation.
-Serve as primary communications liaison with counterparts at grantee organizations.
-Work closely with program staff to jointly determine priorities for program and grantee media coverage.
-Work closely with Communications colleagues in digital strategies, social media, and publications to develop coordinated communications outreach and content production that can be multipurposed.
-Work closely with external PR firms and consultants hired by the Corporation for special projects.
-Build and maintain close relationships with key reporters and editors, with constant effort to keeping abreast of press turnovers.
-Identify, develop, and manage media partnership opportunities.
-Proactively identify crisis PR management needs and carry out press plans accordingly.
-Track all media coverage of the Corporation, and, as much as possible, its grantees doing Corporation-supported work, and manage media archives.
-Perform related duties as required.

Eligibility Requirements:

-Bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications or the humanities.
-Minimum 6 years' experience in PR, Journalism, or related Communications field; 3 years’ experience in senior level PR position preferred.
-Excellent editorial command, including strong written and oral skills.
-Significant experience utilizing a variety of media platforms, including social media.
-Knowledge of and contacts at international and national news media as well as online news and feature sites and blogs.
-Strong ability to pitch targeted news stories and cultivate relationships with journalists.
-Strong interest and background in Corporation programmatic areas.
-Ability to work collaboratively and proactively with a variety of program staff and grantees, including ability to coordinate needs of multiple stakeholders in implementing media strategies.
-Ability to conceive of, write, and create original content. Multimedia content creation a plus.
-Familiarity with latest strategic communications trends and news/public engagement channels, especially online.
-Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure.
