Sr. Product Manager, Juvenile Proprietary
PURPOSE:Implement and execute the Juvenile Proprietary warehouse club program, with annual gross sales of over $30 million. Participate in sourcing and product development. Review and monitor budgeted vs. actual sales in addition to inventory goals on a weekly basis. Monitor all states of product development from presentation to execution in the market and manage all inventory levels responsibly.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESProduct Development•Provide input for product development throughout all phases of production from concept stage to final printing.•Act as primary liaison with domestic publishers/packagers to approve all specifications, formats components, artwork, layout and design ensuring each title meets the overall vision and BTPG standards.•Maintain relationships with over 15 different domestic vendors. Will travel to NY twice a year and attend book fairs, but on an ongoing basis will communicate the evolving requirements of our market, educate vendors on our standards and safety protocols, and brainstorm new ideas to generate innovative new product lines and increase revenue.•Directly drive revenue by assessing opportunities for price increases and identifying product for opportunistic sales domestically and internationally.•Negotiate costs and terms of agreement with vendors and set competitive pricing for customers, ensuring it is in line with market value and margin goals. •Stay abreast of industry trends, research comparable titles and analyze sales history to determine optimum price, quantity and distribution per customer.•Direct vendors on all phases of the safety testing process and liaison with our QA Manager and safety testing consultant regarding the review and approval of each component, material and spec until receipt of final passing test results.Business Development/Sales Execution•Create presentations for all domestic and international club customers. Select appropriate product, run all pertinent sales information, collect quality selling materials, and communicate all feedback from buyers back to vendors.•Conduct sales presentations on behalf of the BTPG juvenile publishing division to warehouse club buyers as needed.•Administer all system transactions and communications regarding the day-to-day club business for Juvenile Proprietary. Will include inputting all new titles, updating information, communicating all changes affecting each club’s program to sales teams, reserving inventory for customers and monitoring out of stocks.•Analyze and assess all club sales on Juvenile Proprietary business on a series, as well as, title-by-title basis, ensuring all reporting on evergreens and title reports cards are up to date. Review gross and net sales for each assortment, run UPC sales to clarify strongest titles in assortment, and forecast future reprints for each customer based on this analysis.•Work closely with planning and allocations to ensure we are maximizing stock in the correct locations as well as buying the correct quantities.•Present projects to the executive publishing board for approval which includes analyzing the profitability of the overall business, reviewing competitive and comparable sales information and addressing all publishing board concerns and questions.•Provide backup support as needed for sales through Baker & Taylor sales channels on sales presentations, item set up and inventory management.Operations and Inventory Management•Oversee all aspects of inventory maintenance by working closely with distribution center and internally with BTMS accounting, finance and IS departments to ensure data integrity, quality control, sub-inventory cleanup and refurbishment.•Review owned inventory on a weekly basis and re-plan and present to core customers in order to maximize sales and inventory turn.•Identify excess inventory and present to BTPG Direct Sales team. Negotiate publisher buy backs where appropriate and propose non-returnable inventory moves to bargain.•Act as lead in communicating projected returns to the distribution center to assist in their space planning. In addition communicate to distribution center space requirements for large work orders and pallets.•Run and distribute reports from the Warehouse Management system (WM) including the inner pack errors report and MPK report to the whole BTPG department to minimize lost sales from out of stock sales.•Provide input on financial rolling sales and returns forecasts by customer and update inventory forecasts on a monthly basis.•Perform related work as needed, including special projectsKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES•Demonstrated managerial experience, negotiation, and presentation skills.•Capable of performing financial analysis and forecasting•Must have clear verbal and written communication skills.•Must show interest in product development and the creative process. Some graphic design training helpful•Demonstrated problem solving and customer service skills.•Experience with computers and ability to operate up to six hours per day (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with Oracle helpful•Ability to work long hours during stressful seasonal peaks•Constantly interacting with customers, vendors, in-house departments, and internal co-workers, managers, and supervisors.EDUCATION•College /University degree preferred.•5-7 years experience in publishing or relevant product development experience.Note: Due to the need for change to maintain a competitive position in our market, management reserves the right to add to, delete from, change or revise this job description at any time.
