JOB PURPOSE: To create content for WTTW’s flagship television program Chicago Tonight and its website.

Responsibilities:
• Produce engaging and journalistically-sound studio segments for Chicago Tonight and other WTTW productions.
• Produce and write engaging and journalistically-sound field segments for Chicago Tonight and other WTTW productions.
• Develop and produce original and distinctive content and reporting for Chicago Tonight’s online presence, including news stories, interactive features, and analysis utilizing a mix of traditional and new media storytelling elements.
• Actively develop and pitch segment, story, and program ideas.
• Stay abreast of community news, issues and activities.
• Conduct research, develop and maintain contacts/sources, and identify and evaluate potential interview subjects and guests.
• Supervise field/studio shoots, conduct interviews and instruct talent.
• Assist in assigning and overseeing work of related support staff and interns.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s Degree preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years experience in television producing or interactive media.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Candidate must possess strong journalistic skills and writing ability. They must be highly organized, be able to prioritize conflicting demands, and work well with a team under nightly deadline pressure. An interest in Chicago area news, as well as the ability to quickly absorb and comprehend new information, is a must. Successful candidate should have a reporting background and an understanding of journalistic ethics and procedure. Knowledge of, and proficiency with computer programs, new media, & multi-media content integration is also desired.
