JOB PURPOSE: To conceive, develop and produce high quality, journalistically sound content for television and the web.

Responsibilities:
• Research and develop interesting, journalistically sound stories for Chicago Tonight and its website.
• Set up and schedule shoots, conduct field interviews, direct camera operators in the field, get b-roll, shoot stand-ups and transcribe interviews as needed.
• Write voice and produce compelling, balanced scripts.
• Low-resolution edit and/or supervise editing of story, including locating file and archival tape.
• Take part in reporter debriefs as required.
• Serve as substitute or segment host on television and the web.
• Produce other studio segments as needed.
• Attend staff and editorial meetings. Regularly pitch story ideas for both platforms.
• Work with web producers to develop original web content and functionality.
• Create and provide material to other platforms as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: At least 5-10 years of experience reporting, preferably in Chicago.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Candidate must possess extensive reporting experience, strong writing ability and sound news judgment. Major Market television experience is desirable. An understanding of journalistic ethics and procedure is critical. Candidate must also be highly organized, able to prioritize conflicting demands, and work well under nightly deadline pressure. Candidate must be a team player and demonstrate a keen knowledge of, and passion for, Chicago news.
