More than 3.5 million people are employed at colleges and universities in the United States. Working in academe comes with its own culture, set of rules, and personalities, and navigating a career on campus is both rewarding and challenging.

A new start-up, created and backed by The Chronicle of Higher Education, aims to be the world’s premier destination for information about academic careers. We’re seeking a Community Manager to harness the power of this new network in order to build, grow and support an engaged group of users. Your role is to be the voice of the community within the editorial and business units of the new venture.

The Community Manager will identify and engage the most active members of our community to deepen their involvement with the network; manage user comments in editorial content; support the community’s efforts to self-organize; solicit community input on product improvements, editorial content, and special projects; collaborate on communication strategies for social media and manage daily social media operations; provide input to product managers to better integrate community features into our technology platform; and assist with outreach and engagement with our community of influencers and users.

The ideal candidate will have proven writing and social media skills, and demonstrated leadership ability and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Applicants should be able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously, and work with colleagues across departments while keeping overall goals in mind. A calm, focused, results-oriented attitude towards online community management and online communication is a must. Deep knowledge of higher education is a plus. Most of all, the candidate should be comfortable in a start-up environment, and have the passion and entrepreneurial drive to make a new venture succeed and thrive.
