Your tasks
The Acquisitions Editor, Computer Books is responsible for increasing company profitability via acquisitions that are consistent with the company's reputation as a high quality, first to market publisher. The role involves extensive travel, industrial contacts, author contact, proposal review, and long range planning for growth and the development of the program. The position requires someone who is innovative, communicates and negotiates effectively to gain new clients for acquiring and managing a portfolio. Specific responsibilities include:

?Pursue an active and efficient acquisitions policy through correspondence, meetings/trips, telephone, consultations with marketing and business development managers at major computer and business companies, etc. Approximately 15% travel required as well as strong initiative and independent ability to gain and impress new potential authors or providers of software.
?Discuss, propose and negotiate financial and budgetary plans with clients and authors to publish books in the program.
?Utilize guidelines, plans, reporting systems, etc., to implement publishing plans.
?Prepare and execute publishing contracts.
?Obtain reviewers and advisors and evaluate their judgments.
? Maintain current status of all projects in the program. Ensure timely preparation of manuscripts in form suitable for production.
?Review and discuss new projects and plans with editorial colleagues, particularly in overlapping areas.
?Initiate marketing support, buybacks and other promotional opportunities with authors, author?s employers or companies with an interest in the publication.
?Perform related duties as required.

Our requirements
oBachelor's degree or higher; Master's degree preferred.
oTwo (2) years' experience in publishing; editorial acquisitions experience required.
oExcellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
oMust be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally.
