The Associate Publisher, Clinical Medicine is responsible for the growth of BioMed Central?s portfolio of journals in clinical medicine and related products and services (conferences, supplements). This is a growing portfolio that currently includes around 50 titles.
The role has responsibility for substantially growing the revenue from this important sector of our market through increasing the number of journals and the number of publications within them. This includes working with the Publisher, Clinical Medicine, to set the overall strategy for the portfolio. Along with the Publisher, Clinical Medicine, the Associate Publisher, Clinical Medicine, has responsibility for advising the relevant departments within the company to develop effective strategies which will drive the growth of high quality submissions and journal acquisitions from the Americas.
Key responsibilities will include:
?Direct responsibility for the successful management of a set of journals within clinical medicine, including developing and executing journal development plans, optimizing the publishing service and commercial opportunities, and increasing submissions.
?Line management of a team of Journal Development Editors, including setting targets and creating development plans, and meeting objectives set to deliver these targets.
?With the Publisher, Clinical Medicine, developing a strategic plan for the portfolio.
?Identifying and acquiring new or transfer journals within assigned areas of clinical medicine to agreed targets for the group.
?Identifying and realizing potential new business relationships and partnerships.
?Keeping up to date with developments in the field, and understanding the changing needs of clinicians and representing their needs to ensure that Biomed Central is able to fulfill those needs.
?Profile raising activities in the field, for example contributions to discussions, projects of importance, presentations at conferences.
?Fostering excellent relationships and team working within BioMed central and Springer.
?Keeping abreast of developments in the publishing industry, open access and especially in the Americas.
?Bachelor's degree, preferably in medicine or a related topic; advanced degree(s) a plus
?5-10 years experience in STM journal publishing, preferably in an open access environment
?Detailed knowledge of the clinical medical field
?Experience as a line manager, preferably managing a global team
?Strong experience of successfully acquiring journals
?Excellent negotiation skills
?Excellent communication and influencing skills
?Willingness to travel
