Within Elsevier’s S&T Books division, create a list-building publication strategy and signing hit list for the Genetics and Computational Biology publishing portfolio. Develop and execute on strategy by acquiring, developing and publishing commercially attractive new titles, meeting or exceeding ambitious signing and title publication growth goals each year. Build and maintain an in-depth understanding of the biomedical research market and relative strength of own list against competition; incorporate this awareness into the list building strategy, to improve competitive position and expand our genetics, genomics, personalized medicine, epigenetics, computational biology, and bioinformatics product lines and explore new digital product lines.

This individual will conduct appropriate genetics, genomics, computational biology, and personalized medicine market and list research and devise a rolling 4-year publication strategy that supports the overarching Biomedical Science Editorial Team growth/investment strategy. Also, the Acquisitions Editor, Biomedical Research, will continually review and monitor publication pipeline to ensure adherence to list publication strategy and adjust signing hit list accordingly, maintaining an overview of the pipeline for a running 3-5 year window. The Biomedical Research Acquisitions Editor will collaborate with other Acquisitions staff in the Biomedical Research product team and the Health Science publishing program to devise and execute a plan to dramatically expand our reach into the assigned markets in 2014 and beyond.

Success in the role of Acquisitions Editor, Biomedical Research, requires strong acquisitions skills, strategic planning, market research and awareness, deft author management, negotiation/strategy development skills applied to pursuit of publishing partnerships, and ability to deliver successful projects/products. Also, working collaboratively in a global team environment and ability to partner with stakeholders in production, marketing, sales and editorial across lists, teams, divisions and locations.

Key Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree
• A minimum of 2 years' publishing experience with relevant book acquisitions experience.
• Specific market knowledge in relevant discipline is a strong advantage
• Must have superb communication skills, strong organizational skills, be results driven, and have customer and market focus as well as creative/innovative attitude
