The Taylor & Francis Group has a unique and exciting opportunity for an ambitious and savvy marketing professional to work with professional, trade, and academic titles across various channels. Working with two high profile imprints in the Media Arts Group, Focal Press and Routledge, the successful candidate will oversee and take responsibility for the global commercial success of titles in the exciting areas of Gaming, Animation, Audio/Music, and Web. The successful candidate will be forward thinking and innovative, commercially attune, ready to facilitate creative and results-driven marketing, and be a master at diligently managing priorities, projects, and deadlines.

Both imprints have a rich history (Focal Press was founded in 1938 and Routledge first started publishing in 1851) of publishing leading content, and we are ever-expanding the types of content we create, to meet the evolving needs of our markets. Our small local Boston-area office works collaboratively together in an open space that promotes cooperation and efficiency across marketing and editorial. At the same time, we have exposure and access to the resources and opportunities of a large company with a truly global presence.

While preference will be given for those who can work out of our Boston-area office, we will consider outstanding candidates who could work out of either our New York City or Oxford, England office.

Key responsibilities include:

•Develop and ever-refine marketing strategies and tactics necessary to grow the sales of our books across specific product lines, marketing channels and territories worldwide.
•Contribute to the annual strategic vision and planning for each list and present plans to senior management
•Continuously work with editorial colleagues to help steer the direction of individual products, as well as the overall portfolio of products within each list.
•Create new and innovative methods of promotion and marketing while maximizing revenue, while always ensuring that messaging resonates with the audience and adheres to brand standards.
•Implement global campaigns for all lists, adhering to best practices for direct mail, e-marketing, social media, SEM/SEO, and any other relevant tactics. Monitor and analyze campaigns, taking remedial action to maximize results and achieve required goals
•Produce marketing activity and analysis reports on a monthly basis, quarterly presentations to senior management and end of year reviews.
•Collect and utilize data (primary and secondary) to help drive decision making and effect strategy
•Manage a marketing budget, cost control and analysis, with a strong focus on efficiency and results
•Represent the products at sales meetings and through continuous communication with the sales department, and develop effective sales tools
•Analyze trends in various channels and feed insight back to editorial and sales colleagues
•Visit key institutions and clients and represent Focal Press and Routledge at conferences and events
•Build effective strategic relationships with key external partners, including relevant organizations, associations, user groups, communities, key media outlets, and authors, to help add value to our partners and ultimately grow the business
•Foster a culture of quality, efficiency and innovation in the team, helping to encourage new ideas and constructive feedback. Add value to the team in the form of knowledge sharing (through our formal Knowledge Tranfer Sessions and our Focal Press Forward meetings) and case study creation and sharing.
•Always work to leverage cross-promotional opportunities that exist between both brands, and other relevant Taylor and Francis imprints.

Key Performance Indicators:

•Annual revenue goals are met or exceeded
•Annual budgets are managed, effectively spent, and analyzed through a continual review period
•Create and implement effective integrated marketing plans, and track all promotions throughout the year, with a focus on ROI.
•Meet content site traffic and social media influence goals, to support driving revenue and audience engagement.
•Meet all project deadlines.

Essential skills required:

•Outstanding time-management and organizational skills, with finesse for managing ever-changing priorities across a wide spectrum of internal and external constituents.
•Proven track record of managing a large marketing budget and achieving/exceeding revenue targets through focused marketing campaigns
•Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
•High attention to detail and accuracy
•Deadline and target driven
•Personnel management and/or team leadership experience
•A proven track record of innovation and adding value to the team and company.

Desirable skills required:

•The successful candidate will have at least five years of marketing and/or publishing experience and a minimum of two years marketing experience in the academic, trade or professional publishing. Specific experience in any of the following would also be beneficial – online marketing, sales, higher ed, or the library market.

Important note: As part of your application, please submit a cover letter that specifically addresses the following:

One important way we gauge the success of our marketers is by what they create. Please describe one thing that you created in a current or previous position, ideally something that persisted (or will persist) beyond your tenure. What you describe could be anything – a new program, a website or landing page, a process, or literally anything else big or small. Applicants who do not specifically address this will not be considered.
