We are looking for an individual to join the Trade Book Production Editorial department. Responsibilities include: manage fiction and nonfiction titles from manuscript to bound book; supervise freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers; maintain high quality; meet schedules; and work directly with production managers, designers, and editors within the company. The qualified candidate will have a minimum 3 years' book production editor experience and outstanding verbal, written, and computer skills.
Requirements Major Responsibilities:

• Work as production editor on approximately new print titles per year, approximately 10 paperback conversions that are being revised and reset, and 5-10 e-original titles (ranging from short stories to full-length books).
• Keep books on schedule while juggling multiple projects at once.
• Hire freelance copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers, and supervise their work.
• Prepare both paper and electronic manuscripts for design and typesetting.
• Collate author and proofreader corrections, and check that corrections have been made correctly.
• Copyedit and proofread indexes, jacket/cover copy, and other material.
• Maintain consistent style within each work.

Required Skills / Knowledge:

• excellent copyediting and proofreading skills
• strong knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
• familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style
• meticulous attention to detail
• ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and juggling multiple projects at once
• strong computer skills, including familiarity with Track Changes and electronic copyediting

Experience Needed:

• must have at least three years of experience as a production editor at another trade publisher

Educational Background Required:
• bachelor’s degree
