The ideal candidate already has experience as art director of a great-looking print publication—or is a strong No. 2 ready to run the show. The art director is responsible for the overall graphic look of the magazine, including photos, illustrations, color and typography. The art director works with the senior editors on the design concept for each article, then assigns or acquires the appropriate elements. Experience designing covers for maximum newsstand impact is essential. The candidate also must be adept at working with freelance photographers and stylists; coordinating major photo shoots (including food, home & garden, and outdoor recreation); and bringing home the work within budget. Coolness under pressure is a must — as is proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Experience with web design and video shoots is a plus. We are looking for a leader (you’ll have one direct report) who can maintain our high standard of design excellence across the brand (you’ll provide input on logos, marketing materials and web design). Please e-mail your cover letter, résumé, salary requirements, and up to three samples (no larger than 10MB) or a link to your online portfolio. **Resumes without salary requirements will not be considered. No phone calls. Please reply with cover letter and resume.
