Crain's Chicago Business seeks an experienced Event Planner to oversee the day-to-day logistical aspects of events including: attendee registration, working with venues, caterers, vendors and AV techs on proposals, payment and contract negotiation. Job responsibilities will include:

•Develop creative approaches to producing events and conferences to ensure that every event is a "must attend" event by clients
•Source venue options; negotiate contract terms and pricing, prepare spreadsheets to include venue description, availability, and negotiated rates
•Maintain and develop new relationships with vendors, including hotel sales and service representatives.
•Manage the event registration process; be familiar with event specifics in order to answer questions received from attendees on email/phone/day-of.
•Work with graphic designer to manage, execute and copy edit event promotional materials, including: invitations, print ads, email blasts, on-site signage, programs, and presentations.
•Work with sales team to develop event sponsorship proposals and support the event sales process, including: creating sponsor proposals and contracts.
•Manage online registration system (HTML files, setting up landing pages, running reports, etc.)
•Manage and create all e-marketing event campaign queries for deployment
•Track all event expenses and prepare a budget recap in excel.
•Stay on top of industry trends (technology, new venues, catering trends, etc.)
•Manage event Sponsors – sending checklists, keeping tabs on deliverables and sponsorship assets, being a point of contact and resource for all event logistical questions
•Schedule and manage temps for event set-up
•Train event intern and help manage their to-do’s

Job Requirements:

•A minimum of 3 to 5 consecutive years of successful experience planning and producing corporate events, catering, conferences, meetings and events.
•Advanced knowledge of MS Office, Excel and PowerPoint, experience with HTML preferred
•Excellent interpersonal, verbal/phone and written skills, customer service
•Ability to work as a team player and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
•Creative thinker, helping team come up with innovative ideas
•A proven ability to implement an event from concept to completion, paying close attention to every detail while meeting deadlines and budgets
•Some marketing experience preferred
