The McClatchy Company’s Washington Bureau is seeking a correspondent to cover environmental, regulatory and other related news for all of our newspapers and websites. This position also will be responsible for managing both the news and the needs of editors for our Florida newspapers – The Miami Herald and Bradenton Herald. The successful candidate should have significant journalistic experience, including experience working with Florida newspapers. Responsibilities include working with our staff of 40 regional, national and foreign correspondents as well as digital platforms that are part of McClatchy's network in 30 cities nationwide.

The bureau produces a wide range of stories, from breaking news to major investigative projects. McClatchy is in the midst of a company-wide effort to re-imagine how we communicate news via a series of highly interactive digital products, including a series of new tablet publications and other mobile devices.


• Writes stories to report and cover environmental, regulatory and other related news.
• Manages the news and needs of editors for our Florida newspapers – The Miami Herald and Bradenton Herald.
• Works with McClatchy editors and reporters to craft the best means of telling news stories via interactive technologies.

Qualified candidates will have the following:

• College degree required; master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of five years reporting experience required.
• Experience reporting for a Florida newspaper preferred.
• Two years covering environmental news preferred.
• Excellent writing and reporting skills.
• Ability to research, report and tell many kinds of stories.
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency and work well with all staff from correspondents and editors to publishers at multiple papers and the Washington Bureau.
