Holt has always been known for publishing high quality books, including works by such internationally renowned authors as Erich Fromm, Robert Frost, Hermann Hesse, Norman Mailer, Robert Louis Stevenson, Ivan Turgenev and H.G. Wells. Today the publication program focuses on American and international fiction; biography, history and politics; science, psychology and health; and books for children. Henry Holt and Company is seeking a senior editor of fiction, with a focus on thrillers, suspense and mysteries, and nonfiction general-interest books.

Major Responsibilities:

• Acquisition of 8-12 new titles per year
• Developmental editing and line editing
• Writing tipsheets, catalog copy, jacket copy, and audio presentations
• Coordination and collaboration with sales, marketing, publicity, rights, production, art, and other departments
• Supervision of an editorial assistant

Required Skills / Knowledge:

• Strong relationships among literary agents
• Demonstrated skill in working with authors on all aspects of publication
• Must be independent and self-motivated in work habits
• Strong writing skills
• Meets deadlines and has a strong eye for detail
• Knowledge of the fields listed above

Experience Needed:

• At least six years experience as an acquiring editor of trade books

Educational Background Required:

• Bachelor’s degree
